AZARDI Online. ALPHA DEMONSTRATION RELEASE

This is a demonstration of the publishing potential of ePub 3 in a reader that operates on all platforms and all devices. It can be used for ePub 2/3 online previews, library access and controlled subscription delivery of content everywhere.

Use of AZARDI Online (AZARDI OL) is governed by the the AZARDI License and Terms of Use.

Browser Warning

Desktop Browsers. The AZARDI OL demonstration requires a standards-compliant browser with HTML5 and significant CSS-3 support. Strongly recommended: Firefox 8+, Google Chrome 16+, Safari 5.1+, Opera 11+. All Internet Explorer Browsers will work if the Google Chrome Frame plugin is installed when prompted.

Tablet Browsers. Use Scroll mode with iPad, paging does not currently work. Android browsers are erratic. The Android native browser does NOT support SVG. Some screens may not display. Android owners should install/use Mozilla Fennec for the full AZARDI OL experience.

The fixed layout viewport is landscape, 1000px wide and 700px high, with 40px at the top for navigation. It should fit on a standard 1024px X 768px screen or larger. The demonstration includes Animations, Questions and Answers, and a lot more using the AZARDI Interactive Engine. AZARDI has been upgraded with MathJax and now displays MathML on all browsers. Right click on equations to see the amazing features of MathJax. It doesn't quite work on mobile devices yet.

This book tests systems for their ability to hand a wide range of alphabets including Right-to-Left. It uses DejaVuSerif as the default font, which covers most languages. There are no embedded fonts for Chinese and Indic languages so your system must supply these. Most modern operating systems will provide the fonts if available, but on some systems, some languages may not present correctly.

From the IDPF ePub3 samples site. "Herman Melville's Moby-Dick with, as opposed to wasteland, one spine item per chapter. Includes embedded fonts (OpenType). Uses the epub:type attribute." Like the base version, but includes Media Overlays for the first two chapters."

This identifies an AZARDI OL Alpha bug. There is one audio file for two chapters and the second chapter starts playing Chapter One. Clicking on a paragraph and the correct text reads.

This sample has both the rendition:orientation and the rendition:spread properties set to 'auto." Note this is a single page rendition. This sample also contains an experimental "textual overlay"; the paintings in the fixed pages can be tapped or clicked to toggle the display of a commentary box. Note that the primary purpose of this sample is to exhibit mixed reflowable/fixed content; the textual overlay component is experimental and not recommended for replication. This sample has the rendition:orientation property set to 'landscape', and the rendition:spread property set to 'none'."

We have made some adjustments to the textual overlay Javascript to make it work on AZARDI. Other than that it is all IDPF interpreted by AZARDI.
